Hey, you gotta clean your gutters. Extend your downspouts, fix low spots in the yard.
And for the love of all that is Holly, keep soil moisture. Consistent. Dry soil… What is it?
It’s holy. You said Holly, you said for all. For the love of that is Holly.
It’s holy.
I wasn’t sure if anybody heard it.
Clean your gutters. Extend your downspouts. Fix low spots in the yard.
And for the love of all that is Haa—
Ha-Hollllly!
God’s sakes. Holy.
Holy ****
God. That’s what I get for not going to church.
Oh, that’s what it is?
Yeah. I can’t even say holy.
Clean your gutters. Extend your downspouts. Fix low spots in the yard.
And for the love of all that is holy. Keep soil moisture con-consistent. Con-con-consistent. Okay, we’re gonna get through it on the next round.
You ever step outside during a Houston spring and think, wow, this feels like someone’s boiling a big pot of gumbo in the sky.
Yeah. And all the gumbo juice ends up right next to your foundation.
Today we’re gonna be talking about rain mud, and how to keep your house from doing the leaning Tower of Pisa impression.

Welcome back to the potty mouth guys.
The only home improvement show where the hosts know what a French drain is…
…but still can’t agree on whether it actually came from France.
Uh, today’s topic is protecting your foundation from spring rain. Spoiler alert. Ignoring drainage is not an admirable personality trait.
Houston sits on clay soil, which expands when wet and shrinks when dry.
Yeah. Like that one uncle who swears he’s not retaining water, but we’ve all seen the photos.
Spring storms dump inches of rain fast. The soil balloons, your foundation shifts, and suddenly your door stopped closing.
Yeah. Congratulations. Your house has now entered puberty.
Cracks on the walls, sticky doors, slanted floors. Those aren’t quirky features, folks.
They’re your home, trying to whisper “Help meeeeeeee”.
Plumbing systems also count. Slow drains, weird sewer smells, hotspots on the floors. Those could be slab leaks.
Slab leaks and foundation issues go together like humidity and bad hair days.
Yeah, they do.
First, drainage, you want water away from your house.
If the soil around your home looks like a kiddie pool after every storm, well, that’s gonna be a problem. Unless, of course, you really like mosquitoes.
Oh, clean your gutters. Extend your downspouts and fix low spots in the yard.
And for the love of God, keep soil moisture consistent. Dry soil plus sudden rain equals soil expansion, which is going to equal foundation movement.
Slab leaks can cause foundation shifting, or can be caused by it.
It’s a classic chicken-and-egg situation, except both chickens cost thousands of dollars to fix.
If you see the signs, rising water bills, warm floors, or multiple drains backing up, call us.
We have tools that find leaks without demolishing half of your living room.
Nick’s has been dealing with Houston soil issues since 1979.
We’ve seen everything in the cracking slabs, the shifting piers, the “my house is definitely tilting, but my husband says it’s fine.”
Foundation movement is stressful, but catching it early makes all the difference.
And we make the process as painless as possible. No scare tactics, just expertise.
Well folks, we’ll see you next time. Make sure you tune in!
