In the early 1820’s, Pine Point was a homestead on a plot of land at the southernmost turn of Buffalo Bayou. There was no one else was around, and that’s how John D. Taylor wanted it. When he was given a land grant by Stephen F. Austin (the “Father of Texas”) that centered on an unusually thick growth of pine trees, the Piney Point homestead was born.

The area was the perfect place for a new settlement. Plenty of timber, lots of water, and its location eventually made it an accessible stopping point along the Texas Western Railroad. After the Civil War, many German farmers settled in the area and operated the local sawmills.

In 1955, after failing to form a Spring Branch municipality, Piney Point Village was incorporated with an alderman form of government. By the late 1960’s the area was home to four churches and a public school. Piney Point Village has grown alongside the city of Houston, to the point that in 2010, Piney Point Village was recognized as the wealthiest location in Texas, based on per-capita income!
